Overview
For Chicago’s students, the CICS ChicagoQuest campuses will offer 21st-century learners an innovative and dynamic academic environment.
ChicagoQuest adapts an innovative education model currently being implemented in a New York City public school called “Quest to Learn.”
The school is designed to enable students to “take on” the identities and behaviors of explorers, mathematicians, historians, writers, and evolutionary biologists as they work through a dynamic, challenge-based curriculum with content-rich “questing to learn” at its core.
An integrated curriculum and digital media are used to model the complexity of “systems.” Understanding, accounting for, and acting within this complexity is a fundamental literacy for students today.
CICS ChicagoQuest is:
- The 2nd school of its kind in the United States
- Designed to build the competencies essential to today’s connected world – problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and resourcefulness
- A place where students “learn by doing” – they build the knowledge and skill sets needed to solve increasingly complex problems in a “game-like” environment that is organized around “missions” and “quests”
- Based on research and practice, sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation, that support the use of digital media, game theory, and design principles to support young people’s engagement and learning
